Thinking of buying SEL18135 for use on my NEX-6.

Now latest NEX firmware V1.03 has no specific support for SEL18135.
I suspect by virtue of it being e-mount I will get basic barrel distortion, chromatic aberation and shading correction. Is this assumption correct?

For later cameras like a6300 that have an SEL18135 firmware update, what other things get supported?
Main thing though is will SEL18135 be good on my NEX-6 with barrel correction?

Sony claims following for this NEX-6 + SEL18135 combination :-

The [Lens Comp.: Distortion] setting will be set to "Auto". •Fast Hybrid AF is available in the center area with the system The [Lens Comp.: Distortion] setting will be set to "Auto". •Fast Hybrid AF is available in the center area with the system.

Guess I am confused as to how I get corrections without the right firmware support.

Thanks

Well I did some more research at my local camera store with SEL18135 fitted to my NEX-6.

Shot RAW + JPEG.

I can confirm that NEX-6 + SEL18135 combo correctly fixed distortions in the JPEGS.

At 18mm zoom RAW shows huge barrel distortion all nicely fixed in JPEG.

For fun tried a new a6300 camera fitted with the same SEL18135. This has SEL1813 firmware. Level of RAW distortion and JPEG corrections looked the same as with the NEX-6.

So NEX-6 seems to me to operate great with SEL18135 even without a specific SEL18135 firware upgrade.

Pretty sure that an a6000 would be equally as good with SEL18135
