Focusing Problem with 16- 35mm F2.8 GM

My lens works perfectly most of the time, but at every event I cover I get times where the autofocus literally stops working. I am a wedding photographer and last week for example I was shooting family groups and the lens would not autofocus for me. It was focusing but then stopped focusing. I am using the A73 and A7R3 cameras. I dont have this problem with my other lenses so this is a real issue for me. The lens works perfectly 99% of the time but it has let me down by not focusing at times and I have missed key wedding shots as a result. Can you advise please on this? Thank you. David

Hello @acapulco5656,

did you close the aperture very far? If I recall correctly most lenses do not automatically focus at values over F=8.

Hi Nic,

Many thanks for this, but its unfortunatelty not as a result of shooting at f8 or above as I rarely go over f5.6 even with groups.
