I have been trying to to compose an Audio / visual presentation in 4K to be presented on a Sony KD-55AG9 OLED TV. The application I use is "Pictures to EXE". Unfortunately when I attempt to use the preset settings to compose an MP4 video the TV does not recognise the file. However, if I enter the custom setup screen for the conversion I can with reduced quality and frame rate produce a file which will play on the TV if I use a USB 3 stick.

Currently 24 fps and about 2/3 quality setting are the best I can achieve.

Can anyone please inform me what the correct settings should be for the best quality 4K video?

Why Sony do not make this information available I cannot understand!

Many thanks.

Peter.

Dear Marino.

Thanks for contacting me.

Below is the default setting from "Pictures to Exe" for MP4 creation which I
assume should produce a workable file for the TV, however it does not.

The file created works fine on the pc and when copied onto a memory stick
but when transferred to the tv the file is not recognised.

I have tried the USB 2 and USB 3 inputs and neither work, I have also tried
USB 2 and USB memory sticks and neither function.

I have attempted to create file formats that will work but these have not
produced the perfection I was looking for from this expensive tv.

The files will play when the MP4 converted file is configured as below.
However 24 fps is barely acceptable and the quality setting is low the top
of the range is 150.

There are further adjustments which can be made concerning the video bit
rate (see below) which I have not attempted to alter but thought it best to
seek advice. If you can offer any suggestions I will be grateful, surely I
cannot be the only person who is experiencing this problem.

Many thanks.

Peter.

Dear Marino.

I have Installed Archos, VLC and Nova and all three exhibit
the same problem, although these three apps. recognise the files on the
memory stick they will not play at 60 fps. I can step through the videos and
view individual pictures but they will not play continuously. The video is
not dynamically demanding, it is composed of still photographs fading from
one to another, there are no fast pan, tilts or zooms involved.

During the conversion to MP4 I notice this warning:

"Hardware acceleration for video encoding is not available on your video
card. If you have a new NVIDIA, AMD or Intel graphics, try to update
drivers. Some old video cards do not encode 4K video or 60p video".

My Graphics card is an integral part of the Motherboard and is 6 years old.
I assume the warning is for the PC's Monitor? Neither the Graphics card or
the PC monitor is 4K compatible.

If you considered the graphics card was the problem I could possibly
purchase a 4K card.

I am afraid 4k video is unchartered territory for me but I do want to
achieve a good result.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Peter.

Cannot agree I'm afraid.

I have tried two memory sticks:

SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 - 32GB up to 100MB/sec.

SanDisc UltraFit USB 3.1 - 128GB up to 130 MB/sec.

The inputs on the TV are only USB 2.

I have tried the USB 3 input but this did not improve the video quality.

Regards.

Peter.

Hi Ashlar8319 ,

There're a couple of things that I don't understand.

Do you use this program on a PC?

What is the final file extension ? Is it MP4?

How do you transfer the file to the TV? Do you remove the USB stick when you try to view it?

Could you possibly provide a video or a photo showing the error message?

Cheers,
The_Black_Rose

Dear Black Rose.

In answer to your questions.

The "Pictures to Exe 10" is a well-respected audio / visual application
which runs on a PC.

The Extension is MP4 but currently it does not comply with the MP4 codecs I
have found recently in the TV manual.

The files are transferred from the PC to the TV on USB 3.0 or 3.1 memory
sticks.

The memory stick remains in the TV when playing videos.

The error message is simple. "Cannot play video"

I have contacted "Pictures to Exe" and we have explored various solutions.

Yesterday they sent me two files which play successfully on the TV as
3840x2160@60p which indicates that they are aware of the problem and have
found a solution.

They gave no indication of when or if they will incorporate the fix into
their application but I live in hope of a speedy implementation.

I will let you know if there is more progress in case you have further
enquiries regarding this problem.

Thanks.

Peter.

"Pictures to exe" have modified their app to allow H.264 encoding and I have downloaded a beta version which works well. I do not know if this version is generally released.

They are considering implementing H.265 but they believe few people will have the hardware capability to encode the files.

Regards.

Peter.
