That seems strange, have you tried to do a repair of the phone software?

Click on this link to get Sony PC companion:

http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/

Start PC companion, start "Support Zone", start "Update phone software" and click on "Repair".

Follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know if you are still having this issue after the repair of the phone software.

Hello

I also have the Xperia Z, and my volume down button is also working on and off, and the phone is in safe mode, i have tried resetting the phone to factory defaults, with no luck.

I do however see there is fog in the front and rear camera?

Hi, I also have the same problem. After searching online I think I found the reason for this issue with the volume down button. Water getting into the Water resistant phone.

If you try to think about it you would have got your phone wet before you got this problem. And when you phones gets hot you probably see fogging on the camera lens screen.

Some people have suggested of opening all the flaps and trying to get your phone dried out. They say it fixed it for them.

Others have said that eventually they had to send it back to Sony for repair (under warranty) and got a new phone.

I will am trying to use the first technique by getting my phone dried out.

New programs or apps can affect control software which then affects hardware. If you can remember what new program or app you installed before the volume button problem, remove that program or software and restart the phone. This should fix the issue. I have this phone and a Sony theme program was affecting the down button on my phone. When it was removed, the button worked fine. So there you go.
