topic Won't recognize 2-channel output in E Series

When I plug a 2-channel cable (leading to an amplifier) into my E5, it plays for a fee seconds then stops. From then on if I press play, it plays about half a second and stops again.

Problem doesn't occur when using earphones with a third channel (microphone). My first thought was it's a hardware problem, but since it does play a little bit it's obviously the software failing to recognize that it around play.
