sony kd-49xh8196 wont register USB stick

Hello

I'm trying to register a 2.1TB USB stick for recording but when I get to the end of the process i get a message that it has failed and that I should try again later. (I'm not sure what the time of the day has to do with anything here).

Anyway the USB is formatted as exFAT when I plug it in to the TV and NTFS when I take it out so the TV is obviously doing something.

I've tried with a 32gb USB and that does register but wont record because its too small.

Can anyone suggest what's going wrong here?

Where are you seeing that a USB memory stick can be used for recording? The "official" line is only USB Hard Drives are compatible. Can a USB memory stick or USB solid-state drive (SSD) be used for recording? | Sony UK
